Frank Simms
Frank is a naturalist guide with a long career path involving his beloved Costa Rica. He grew up in Escazu, a small town surrounded by blue and green mountains in the Central Valley. His admiration for nature and wildlife turned him into an autodidact photographer, and he feels most comfortable, relaxed and happy when sharing his knowledge with visitors.
Frank acquired his experience through an array of jobs. One in particular, as a television cameraman for the Mundo Ecologico (Ecology World) television show, opened his eyes and gave him a better view of what his country had to show the world, prompting him to become a tour guide. He started studying in 1994, and has taken special courses to increase his knowledge of volcanoes and ornithology.
To enhance his experience, he has worked as a rafting guide, and has had the opportunity to make descents through the Reventazón, Pacuare, and Sarapiquí Rivers. He even enjoyed the chance to be the guide for Nick Baker, a presenter on Animal Planet. A good part of the year Frank works in the Tortuguero National Park, where he directs night tours, sharing with visitors the amazing experience of turtles laying their eggs. He specializes in guiding student groups and senior citizens’ itineraries.
When not guiding, Frank enjoys playing with his dogs Sizu and Don Cope.
