Gabby Salazar

Gabby Salazar is a conservation photographer, an environmental social scientist, and a National Geographic Explorer. With support from the National Geographic Society, she has photographed volcanoes in Guatemala, created a film about lion conservation in Zimbabwe, and documented conservation efforts along a new highway in Peru. Gabby also collaborated with fellow Explorer Dr. Krithi Karanth to start an environmental education program in India that has reached over 20,000 students.

Gabby has spent months exploring the jungles of Southeast Asia and has served as a photographer on expeditions on the islands of Java and Borneo. In 2021, she was recognized by the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) as the Emerging Photographer of the Year and in 2004 she was named BBC Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year. Gabby is also an Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers and a Past President of NANPA. She has an MSc in Conservation Science from Imperial College London and is currently a doctoral student at University of Florida, where she studies environmental marketing. She is the co-author of the book “No Boundaries: 25 Women Explorers and Scientists Share Adventures, Inspiration, and Advice”, published by National Geographic Kids Books.
