Early in the morning, National Geographic Sea Lion arrived at Granito de Oro. This little islet, with its white sand beach and a pristine coral reef formation, is part of Coiba Island National Park. Once we arrived at the islet, we were welcomed by a common black hawk that landed on one of the coconut palms and a lot of hermit crabs moving around the beach. Our guests were able to snorkel and kayak in this amazing spot. They were rewarded with the marine wildlife nearby Granito de Oro.
The day was very sunny, perfect for our activities. The transparent waters surrounding the islet allowed our guests to enjoy the beautiful life of the coral reef. Some of them spotted hawksbill turtles, green sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, moorish idols, bicolored parrotfish, giant damselfish and king angelfish, among others. For those who didn’t snorkel, Granito de Oro provided some shade, perfect for reading a book and contemplating the beauty of this pristine paradise.
Back on board, we weighed anchor and started our navigation to the next destination of our expedition. Late in the afternoon we went out to the bow and enjoyed some beautiful pantropical spotted dolphins riding alongside of us. They played around for a while, allowing us to take some good pictures. Brown boobies and magnificent frigatebirds were soaring in the sky, as if giving us the farewell from this great spot. We felt like time was flying by on our fourth day of the expedition.
Next destination: the Bay of Panama and the Panama Canal!
