The sound of the wind drove me out of my cabin, for my early morning view of Delos, the sanctuary of Apollo, the great commercial center of the Hellenistic and Roman era. It is always a breathtaking view!
We sailed to the port and started out tour as the only pilgrims, focusing on the sacred sight and studying the temples and the famous lions. More pilgrims docked as we enjoyed the art in the museum. The climb to the theater gave us the pleasure of glimpses at the luxurious homes of Dionysus and Cleopatra.
Our wonderful morning was followed by a great lunch and then the chance to enjoy sailing on our way to the island of Paros. I opted for a hike to the lighthouse with the city of Naoussa at the distance. The coast was so colorful that I kept on falling back to study the green, blue, purple water. The white veins of marble on the rocks lead us to the lighthouse, with the furious Poseidon as the background. Laura, our guide, led the hike and then we took a refreshing swim as we came back to the bay. Dinner under the stars and the crew singing and entertaining us with the “shanties” was the perfect ending of the day.
