Today we began our day with a great walk on Punta Espinoza on Fernandina Island. There we observed several groups of Galapagos marine iguanas, many of whom were actively feeding on algae from the intertidal zone. We were amazed by the large groups, from the small babies to the big adults, all sunbathing. We even found some males with the colors of the mating season fighting for a small piece of territory. Here on Fernandina is where we find the largest population of marine iguanas and at the same time it is the most pristine island in Galapagos.
After our walk on Fernandina Island, we returned aboard and started to sail towards Isabela Island, the largest of all the islands in the archipelago. This afternoon we went deep water snorkeling along the cliffs of Punta Vicente Roca, located on the north-western coast of Isabela. At this location we snorkeled with green sea turtles sea lions, and several kinds of fish. After we returned from snorkeling, we got ready to go on a Zodiac ride along the same coast and observed turtles, Galapagos fur seals, Galapagos penguins, and some of our guests also found the odd looking ocean sun fish.
At the end of the afternoon we returned once more and crossed the equator line aboard our ship and celebrated this event with a toast while enjoying the landscape of Ecuador volcano.
