I was invited to make two presentations aboard Caledonian Star regarding my service in the U.S. Navy. The first of these approximately one-hour talks dealt with my experience as a deep-water saturation diver in the Navy's underwater living program, called the Sea Lab I, II and III series. The past, present and future of deep-water work and technology was explored, as was the current limitations on man's penetration of this dark, cold and mysterious frontier.
The second presentation, although out of proper chronological sequence, concerned my experiences as a naval aviator and test pilot; and explored the relationship of test piloting to space flight and the relationship of space flight to deep sea diving. The story of my experiences in NASA's Project Mercury was followed by a brief history of the American and Soviet space programs and our hopes for the future of space exploration.
