Perhaps no other city in the world is as captivating, dramatic and lively as Rio de Janeiro. The very word is reminiscent of samba music, busy beaches and Portuguese architecture. The Caledonian Star began a two-day adventure in Rio today with many options for discovery available to our guests. Some spent the entire day in the Tijuca National Park, said to be the world's largest forest preserve within a city. On a nature walk through the forest we observed white cheeked marmosets. Another group took a cultural tour of the downtown historic district visiting the Saint Benedict Monastery, the Arco Tellas neighborhood and the Confeteria Colombo. In the morning this same group took an exhilarating excursion to the top of the Sugarloaf Mountain (Pao de Acucar). Here in the photo our Assistant Expedition Leader Libby Tainter, stands with some guests at the overlook above Copacabana Beach. The weather is great - wish you were here!
