Espanola Island

It was still a little cloudy when we got in the Zodiac heading to turtle rock. What a fascinating snorkeling area! We had a lot of fun encountering many different species just few feet underneath us. We really enjoyed playing with the sea lions once more and also encountering colorful species such as sea stars, parrot fish and sharks. Once done with the snorkeling, we headed to Gardner beach. It was nice to take a very relaxing stroll along the whitest beach that you could possibly imagine.

Kayakers had a lot of fun, too. We spotted so many sea turtles along our gentle paddling that we even stopped counting!

After our lunch and our well deserved nap, we landed at Punta Suarez. It felt as if we were landing for the first time in the Galápagos! Lots of sea lions were splashing water against each other in the most playful of the games. This was the prefect welcome committee!

The highlight of the trip was definitely the wave albatross. This species only occurs on this island in the Galápagos and happens to be in the middle of their mating season. Nobody was expecting to see baby albatross and yet we saw then! It was all fluffy and cute, just as the stuff animals are.

We had so much fun in the island that we were the last group back to the ship, only because we decided to stop the Zodiac in the middle of the ocean to observe a really nice sunset.
