Bartolome and Santiago Islands
Today we had a beautiful, clear-skies morning at Bartolome Island. An early wake up call gave us the chance to enjoy a marvelous sunrise, and after having some snacks at the lounge, we disembarked on a cement jetty for our first early excursion to the islands.
We had an easy hike to the summit of Bartolome; three hundred and seventy-two wooden steps were placed by the Galápagos National Park Service to avoid the excessive erosion over the path. After conquering the top and taking as many pictures as needed to prove it, we descended the slope, admiring a different perspective of the island.
The rest of the morning was dedicated to snorkeling and swimming off the nearby beach. We of course provided the necessary equipment for the new environment that our guests were about to experience, and can gladly affirm that they mastered by the end of the morning! It was the perfect time even for beginners to gain experience, since the water by the beach was very clam and clear, being more than inviting and encouraging for practicing.
After this very active, full morning, we enjoyed a short siesta followed by a presentation on the Galápagos Islands. As soon as we dropped anchor at Santiago Island, we headed to a black beach for our second snorkeling of the day. The walk that followed the snorkeling was really nice, and gave us a hand full of highlights. Big marine iguanas, shore seabirds, Galápagos and fur sea lions were among the subjects that our guests enjoyed the most. This was definitely a great day, and it is hard to believe that it is only the beginning of an incredible week to come.
