At Sea
Our fantastic luck with the weather continued today as experienced wonderfully calm conditions in the Bay of Biscay. These waters can been treacherous with severe storms that have caused many shipwrecks throughout the centuries. We saw small groups of common dolphins right through the morning as they raced towards the ship and a few rode the ship’s bow for a while. This is when the dolphins take advantage of the small pressure wave created in front of the ship’s bulbous bow. They elegantly surf this wave and we could look down at these beautiful animals.
It was great to spend time out on deck watching the Northern Gannets circling around the ship. These were juveniles just born this past summer and they are still figuring life as a seabird out. They soared so effortlessly around the back deck that it was a great chance to learn from our photo instructor, Stewart Aitchison, how to capture this with our cameras.
Our day at sea was the perfect opportunity to have a chance to relax and catch up on things. There was lots of time to edit the many photos taken, read the book we bought along with us or even just relax in the sun. We enjoyed the lovely weather and the chance to recharge for tomorrow’s adventures at Ile’D’Aix!
