Genovesa Island
These are really enchanted islands!
Yesterday we spent the day in one of the most beautiful islands of this archipelago (by the way, my hometown, Puerto Ayora, is there.) Anyway, we had a nice and exiting day visiting the giant tortoises. At midnight we were sailing toward Tower Island. We heard from Cindy at briefing time that the next day we were going to visit Genovesa Island also known as “ Hitchcock’s Island”. Well, we understand now because we saw birds everywhere. We saw frigate birds, swallow-tailed gulls, Nazca boobies, and we cannot forget hundreds of red-footed boobies; they were everywhere. After the hike we came back to rest at the beach and we noted that a sea lion had arrived before us. It was resting very pleasantly close to our snorkeling gear. The Galapagos sea lions are so friendly and so playful that some of them like to chase people just to have fun with them. They have a very happy life here in the Galapagos because they don’t have any natural predators on land, so even the young sea lions know nobody will bother or attack them. In this picture we can see how friendly they are. You can be so close to them and they don’t even care about it. All of us had a lot of fun and a great experience in Genovesa Island. That is the magic of Galapagos.
