Venice Islets and Dragon Hill, Santa Cruz Island

A more leisurely day, we started the morning with a later (rather than early) breakfast followed by kayaking and “panga rides” as the options to explore the islands. It was a great experience to observe sharks, rays and other marine life from so close to the water’s surface. Later, snorkeling for the underwater explorers took place at the Guy Fawkes Islets nearby, or instead one could relax by staying on the white sand coral beach of Dragon Hill. It was a good sense of refilling of energy for some guests.

In the afternoon the weather was perfect for hiking and searching for the legendary “Land Dragon” of the Galápagos. The final count was of 20 Land Iguanas here, the individuals being among the largest of the Galápagos Islands. Some of them could reach up to five feet in length! Their population used to be affected by the presence of introduced animals to the islands, but now the conservation programs appear to have been successful and allowed these reptiles to survive and recover their population from the edge of extinction.

During the recap, we heard the plans for the next day activities, and in the preview of the video chronicle, we were in a very good position to observe ourselves and how we have fused with the nature over the last few days.
