Floreana Island

Today was just a magnificent day on Floreana Island, located in the southern area of the archipelago. We began our day visiting one of the most historical places on the islands, which is Post Office Bay and its surrounding areas.

One very traditional aspect of visiting Post Office Bay is to continue with the old whaling tradition of living post cards or letters and hand deliver those letters going close to the homes of the people who visit this particular location. After we looked through the mail we headed towards an islet where Galápagos sea lions have their territories and there we found Pacific green sea turtles, diamond sting rays, Galápagos penguins fishing and some blue-footed boobies plunge diving right next to our Zodiacs.

After having breakfast we left to Champion islet where snorkeling with sea lions was one of the main attractions. For our guests who preferred to observe the marine wildlife without getting in the water, the glass bottom boat was deployed and it was fabulous with lots of sea lions and fish swimming in full view under the vessel.

In the afternoon we went ashore to visit Cormorant Point. There we observed flamingoes feeding in the lagoon while some were spotted nesting. We continued walking and got to a gorgeous white sandy beach well known to be the nesting ground for sea turtles. From the shoreline we were surprised by the large number of sting rays. It appeared as if they were looking for food as we saw them swimming back and forth in the shallows.

We came aboard and had a beautiful sunset with lots of new experiences we shared during recaps.
