Today the Sea Bird explored Tracy Arm, one of the most scenic fjords in all of Southeast Alaska. The ship arrived near the face of Sawyer Glacier, a long river of ice which flows down from the high country of the Coast Range to meet the sea. Here, we encountered a flotilla of spectacular blue icebergs.

Following breakfast the ship attempted to make its way toward Sawyer Glacier, another river of ice which spills into Tracy Arm. Major calving along the glacier front choked the fjord with icebergs, making every moment of navigation very exciting. Knowing that any attempt at reaching the glacier face was futile, the ship was ultimately forced to turn around.

As we made our way toward Williams Cove, back toward the mouth of Tracy Arm, we passed countless waterfalls cascading over the sheer walls of the fjord. One particular waterfall, called Hole-in-the-Wall, was particularly enticing to the First Officer Gart Curtis. Skillfully, he brought the ship in close to the falls, bathing the bow in waves of mist. Everyone on board assembled on deck clad in rain gear.

Today's photo captures yellow raincoats on the ship's bow as we approached this spectacular waterfall.
