Cetaceans seemed to be the order of the day. We were with gray whales all morning, both in the Zodiacs and on the ship during our deck barbecue lunch. Some folks saw a whale breach, most witnessed a spyhop and we all saw several whales swimming toward the protected waters of La Florida after entering from the Pacific Ocean.
During the afternoon, those who remained on deck saw incredible numbers of birds and several small groups of bottlenose dolphins. A couple of times these dolphins approached us to "bowride" the pressure wave pushed ahead of the ship.
We reached La Entrada, the southern entrance to Bahia Magdalena, just before sunset and gained a keener appreciation of the gray whale "singles bar" scene. As a group of four whales repeatedly surfaced near the Sea Bird , Iliana and Gary explained that this is primarily their breeding area.
