We awoke this morning in Boca de Soledad in the northern reaches of Magdalena Bay. Sheltered from the open ocean by a broad swath of sand dunes, this protected bay is a known calving area for gray whales. During the morning we ventured out in our Zodiacs to search for gray whales. We were treated to views of a cow and calf whale that were entering the lagoon. This was a very young calf, tiny, black, and "squeaky clean." This tiny whale was certainly only a few days old and staying close to its mother's side. In the afternoon we headed south out of Magdalena Bay and into the open Pacific toward Cabo San Lucas. As the sun set on the horizon we were able to see the often talked about "Green Flash" over the Pacific.
