Los Islotes & Espiritu Santo Island
The last day of the last trip of the Baja California season has ended. We take with us many memories of amazing wildlife and landscapes. For the Sea Voyager’s farewell to the Gulf of California, we visited Los Islotes. This California Sea Lion breeding colony is the closest to the town of La Paz, where we ended our journey. We cruised around the weather-sculptured rocks to take a closer look at the sea lions. Three week old pups called their mothers as the big males guarded their territories barking at each other and at us. We also submerged ourselves into the undersea world for a different perspective. The water was spectacularly clear and we had plenty of sea lion/human interaction. What an experience!
For the afternoon, we sailed south to Bahia Bonanza, a long sandy beach where we strolled, swam and snorkeled. We also had a last opportunity to ride the “banana boat.” After a week of practice, Carlos, the “banana boat driver,” had a difficult time making the riders fall off.
After dinner, we explored the town of La Paz. We explored the Malecon and sampled what is probably the best ice cream in the world at the local ice cream parlor.
