Rincon de la Vieja Volcano, Costa Rica
A multicolor sunrise over Coco Beach bay announced the beginning of another wonderful day in Costa Rica. An array of sea birds over the fishing boats welcomed our guests while the smell of fresh coffee and pastries lead our adventurous party towards the lounge. The warm breeze blending gently with the sights of brown pelicans, sea gulls and frigate birds accompanied us all the way to the beach where motor coaches were already prepared to take us up to the highlands of Guanacaste.
The province of Guanacaste, currently one of the most developed regarding tourism activities, congregates a great number of our modern traditions: music, dances and folklore. Since 1824, the people of Guanacaste decided voluntarily to annex the territory of Costa Rica and became part of our democratic country. We certainly appreciate this free determination and the inherited cultural treasure which is now part of our nationality.
Our expedition commenced to cover the vast territories of Guanacaste until we reached Liberia, the main city in the province. Brahman cattle, rice fields and a breathtaking landscape were all together an incomparable launch for the magnificent moments yet to come. Games and laughing did remind us the beauty and splendor of early life, while our young adventurers enjoyed the excitement of the trip in their own unique way!
After an inspiring and enlightening experience over the rocky roads of Costa Rica, we made it to Hacienda Guachipelin where we met our special trip mates. Our horses were geared up and organized for a sensational ride up to the heart of the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano. The courageous group of explorers from Sea Voyager showed their best riding skills and accomplished the mission. Once at the National Park, our guests continued the discovery of this untamed realm where nature is the owner and we simply take pleasure in observing this fascinating creation. It seems like Vulcan the blacksmith of the ancient Romans opened his chimney to release all the steam and gases that reach up to the surface of the planet. Fumaroles, boiling mud pots and distant volcanic craters will relate a story of constant destruction and construction in the midst of the Guanacaste Mountain Range. Nearly at 7000 feet above sea level, the Rincon de la Vieja Volcano remains as one of the active volcanoes of Costa Rica and exhibits a primal landscape sculpted by hundreds of years of powerful activity in the area.
The expedition gained access to our lunch site where we could taste the secret flavors of Guanacaste. Country cuisine was definitely a highlight for our guests who enjoyed a well deserved meal as well as the gleaming sounds of the local marimba. All too soon, it was time to head back to the Sea Voyager where our Zodiacs transferred our guests back on board and the end of another stunning day in paradise!
