Cabo Velas and Tamarindo Beach

It is really true that time goes by so fast when one is having a great time! Yesterday we were in Nicaragua, and during the morning today we were back in Costa Rica for our last day of exploration of the northern section of the country.

The Nicoya peninsula belongs to the oldest terrain in the country, where some of the rocks reach 80 million years old. The pacific shoreline from Costa Rica splits in three sections, which were the first volcanic islands to emerge from the oceanic crust. Most of this formation occurred as the Coco’s Plate (older and denser) slid under the Caribbean plate (younger and lighter).

The pacific shoreline is completely different from the Caribbean side. In this area, the coastline is extremely irregular and presents two peninsulas, several bays, points, islands and over 500 miles of beaches. Most of the beaches have horseshoe shapes, which make them great swimming spots. Also, and thanks to this particular shape, the waters remain mostly calmed and warm.

Our morning outing was in an isolated, unspoiled beach, where we all had an awesome time snorkeling, walking or swimming. The most adventurous ones jumped over the waves on an inflatable device known as the torpedo blaster which was dragged by a Zodiac.

Soon, the time came to be back on board, where the Galley had prepared a delicious barbecue lunch with burgers and French fries. During lunch, the Sea Voyager cruised to our afternoon destination. Tamarindo Beach is an authentic surf town with lots of attractions for the tourists.

Our guests had the time to explore the local town of Tamarindo, check on some souvenir stores and get to see a little bit more of the everyday life of the Costa Ricans.

The all aboard was a bit earlier then the last days, due to the fact that we needed to start the longest of our navigations for the next thirteen hours. We had to cover a long distance of approximately 130 nautical miles in order to be able to reach the central pacific region for our last day of the cruise.

The day could not end up better than with a long lasting, full color sunset that warmed the air with sweetness and nostalgia, as our trip comes to an end.
