National Geographic Sea Bird arrived at our first destination on Isla Espiritu Santo before lunch today and after a long voyage from San Jose del Cabo. As we approached our anchorage a group of common dolphins swam towards us and enjoyed a free ride off the bow wake. After the night’s long voyage, guests swarmed to the bow to enjoy these ocean ambassadors escorting us to the safe harbor of Punta Dispensa.

In the early afternoon we landed ashore to explore the bay’s calm waters by either kayak or snorkel. A few opted for a leisurely beachcombing stroll discovering hidden treasures strewn along these pristine shores. Later in the afternoon the majority of our group dispersed amongst the desert terrain on an exercise hike, a couple of interpretive jaunts, or remained on the beach to soak in the warmth of the late day sun. The island has a good diversity of native flora and fauna, and we were lucky to see the endemic black jackrabbit and Espiritu Santo antelope ground squirrel, as well as a variety of birds—turkey vulture, gila woodpecker, and the northern mockingbird to mention a few.

We returned to National Geographic Sea Bird for our Photo Basics talk with Steve Morello, Recap, and dinner.
