We are half way through our Galápagos expedition. Right now we are travelling in the central part of the archipelago. We´ve seen so much, we are learning and discovering more and more over the days!
We left Santa Cruz Island in the early hours. We traveled around its southern side to reach South Plaza Island. This tiny island is our destination for this morning. It is small but it is teeming with a diversity of life forms.
Our first delight is the surrounding landscape. Once you reach the calm shallow shore you are greeted by baby sea lions. When we landed we spotted land iguanas coming out of the cactus forest and some of them gathered underneath the cactus trees waiting for fruit to drop off. This island is not only home to a colony of iguanas and sea lions, it is also a breeding colony for sea birds like swallow-tailed gulls, tropicbirds, Galápagos shear waters and land birds as well, like the iconic cactus finch.
In the afternoon we visited Santa Fe Island. Here, we explored the island from kayaks and with snorkeling gear. While kayaking we had very cool sightings: the rocky cliffs of Santa Fe, sea birds, sea lions and we also spotted a Galapagos hawk! Snorkeling was outstanding because we saw sea lions, stingrays and sea turtles!
It was an amazing day!
