Visit Santiago's charming neighborhoods and get a taste for its world-famous cuisine at a few, select restaurants. Venture outside the city of Santiago and into wine country. Tour some of the beautiful wineries, meet Chilean winemakers, and sample world class wines alongside the experts who created them.
Day 1-2 - Home/Santiago, Chile
Depart on overnight flight to Santiago, Chile. Check into the Mandarin Oriental Santiago (or similar) located in the center of Santiago’s urban elegance, with stunning views of the snow-capped Andes Mountains. Take the morning to relax, and in the afternoon embark on a curated tour of some of the city’s highlights and lesser-known gems. You’ll explore the Plaza de Armas, the main square and city center, continuing on to the nearby Presidential Palace, originally built in the late 18th century. Take in the many wonderful views of the city on your way to dinner at a premier local restaurant that showcases some of the region’s finest cuisine. (L,D)
Day 3 - Casablanca Wine Valley / Santiago
Venture into Casablanca Wine Valley, initially famous for its white Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grapes, but now equally well-known for producing world class reds. Begin the day with a visit to the Casas del Bosque vineyard for a private wine tasting and hands-on experience. Lunch is served at the picturesque vineyard. Next, take in a private tour and tasting at the unique Bodegas RE Vineyard, which has been owned and operated by the same family for eight generations. Get a behind-the-scenes look at their winemaking process, the oldest and most natural methods of the craft. In the evening, return to Santiago for a wine pairing and dinner in the heart of the thriving Vitacura neighborhood. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Maipo Valley / Santiago
Enjoy a relaxing, scenic ride out of Santiago and into the foothills to the small town of Alto Jaguel, Buin. This is the wine country for which the Maipo Valley is renowned. Begin at the Santa Rita vineyard with a horse and carriage ride. Explore the lovely vineyard and visit the monolith commemorating the exact place the Carmenere grape variety was discovered in 1994. Visit the historic wine cellars, enjoy a tasting of Santa Rita’s premier wines, and finish with lunch at the winery, established in 1880. Return to Santiago and in the evening, join the remainder of your traveling companions for a welcome reception at the hotel. Dinner is on your own this evening. (B,L)
