Española Island
I am admiring a beautiful sunset, and am trying to remember all the wonderful experiences of this week that is already coming to an end. Today, the last island in our itinerary Española, showed itself to us in all its splendor, from the submarine life of Turtle Rock this morning, to the surreal landscapes of Punta Suarez.
Earlier on, we were taken to our last snorkeling experience, and what a success it was! It turned out to be a real show of beautiful species and amazingly large schools of fish. Afterwards, we were set free on the white coralline beach of Gardner bay, which we shared with a large colony of Galápagos sea lions and territorial Española mockingbirds, busily marking their invisible limits. It was a relaxing morning, and a well-earned one: we had done, seen and experienced so much this week!
Surely our afternoon visit, Punta Suarez, was one of the most highly expected of the week, and what a highlight it was! The warm afternoon sun lit up the area with its yellow light as we walked along the rocky trail. Dozens of waved albatrosses were flying above our heads, with their powerful and graceful gliding. We contemplated in delight the sight of a young albatross, still completely covered in brown down, well-guarded by its parents. As we reached the cliffs, hundreds of sea birds displayed their amazing flight skills, making this an unforgettable moment. We had to rush our steps back to the landing as it was time to make our way back on board. Tomorrow we shall leave this paradise, but we’ll have countless stories to share back home.
