Santa Cruz Island
Today was a different day. It was a day in which we had many activities prepared for us from sunrise to sunset, but also all of these activities allowed us to relax and explore in our own way and at pretty much our own pace. We spent today anchored off the northwestern coast of Santa Cruz Island, Cerro Dragon, which is an area where the emblematic and endemic land iguanas exist in a greater quantity than we have seen before.
Our morning though was spent cruising amongst a mangrove forest, where wildlife could be seen everywhere. Animals were almost undisturbed and barely aware of our presence. One of the many options of the day was to kayak in these series of lagoons, so a lot of us took this option and set out to discover this magical place. Soon most of our kayakers had white tipped reef sharks, sea lions and different types of rays swimming all around them at one time or another. Snorkeling in really deep water along a wall of incredible marine invertebrates was stunning as well.
This morning we truly got to explore Galápagos in a way that only a handful of people get the chance to. After this amazing but arduous morning, we got back to our base of operations and recharged our batteries for our afternoon adventures which included a nice walk to find the land iguanas and also some refreshing time at the beach for our younger adventurers.
The day could have not ended in a better way. We had a breath taking sunset, a delicious barbeque and almost all of us were able to participate in our second Galápagos Geographic Bee!
