Los Islotes

Today was one of a diversity of experiences. The end of the day brought us up close and personal encounters with pinnipeds of the California sea lion variety. Many of us donned wetsuits and joined these acrobatic and graceful sea lions in their playground. It was amazing to see how effortlessly they maneuvered around us and their curiosity was very apparent with numerous close fly byes. We felt awkward and clumsy, but the sea lions seemed not to be overly concerned with our lack of aquatic grace.

We were at a small island called Los Islotes, and along with snorkeling we also had a chance for Zodiac cruises for more views of the photogenic sea lions and this island is also a birders delight with blue footed and brown boobies, brown pelicans and frigatebirds.

Today was our final day on the Sea Bird and it was with memories of sea lions and dolphins, cactus and hummingbirds, kayaking and hiking, wind and blue skies, bonfires and the desert night stars; that we started packing. It is not the end of our expedition for tomorrow it is to mainland Mexico and up to the rim of Copper Canyon at 8,000 feet above sea level. This expedition is one of diverse encounters.
